John Downton Art Awards

The John Downton Award for Young Artists is an annual exhibition which encourages and celebrates the creativity of Kent's young artists. The exhibition commemorates the life and work of John Downton, the celebrated Kent artist, poet and philosopher and is hosted at Maidstone County Hall by the John Downton Trust.

Congratulations to our Highworth Sixth Form student Mary Ward who collected the 1st place Gold Award for the best painting in the 16-18yr category for her artwork which was titled ‘Julia relaxing.’ In the younger 14-16yr category Molly Bax Yr11 won the Bronze award for a stunning Self Portrait which was set in her garden. India Black Yr11 also had her work ‘Lost in thought’ selected and exhibited.

These artworks will be on show until early January in Maidstone County Hall then the two prize winners will be exhibited at the Turner Contemporary Art Gallery from Saturday 12 January to Sunday 24 February 2019.

We have arranged for lunch time speakers to discuss their careers in: the charity sector; journalism; music and composing; police and social work; microbiology, immunodiagnostic & pharmaceutical sales; and philosophy & religion. All students are welcome.
  • 12:04 PM - 4th Mar 2019 We were thrilled to find out this week that one of our students, Ralph Battle in Year 13, has qualified to participate in the second round of the Chemistry Olympiad at Cambridge University. This is a fantastic achievement for Ralph, and we wish him every success.
