The Friends
Latest News
Firstly can we thank you for all your support with the Festive Fair. We raised an impressive £5,689.83 which will be used to support projects in school.
We urgently need your skills, enthusiasm and a small amount of your time to continue to raise money for the students and the school. We get many requests for funds and these can only be met if we run a regular programme of events. The more people can help, the less there is to do for each individual. It is also a great way to see 'behind the scenes' at the school and to meet other parents.
We have a number of committee positions which are currently vacant, and would love for you to volunteer for any one of them:
- Volunteer Coordinator
- Disco Coordinator
Welcome to the Friends of Highworth. We are an integral and important part of the school. As a registered charity (number 307821), we work imaginatively and tirelessly to raise extra funds which enhance students' opportunities, projects and facilities. As parents/carers of students at the school you are automatically enrolled!
The Friends have a long tradition of organising and running various social events, everything from student discos and quiz nights to the annual Christmas Craft Fair. Members of the Friends are always on hand to provide audiences with refreshments at concerts and shows and we support the schools’ induction process as part of the welcome to you and your child.
Purchases from Friends’ fundraising efforts include outdoor furniture, rowing machines, lighting, sound desks, books, equipment for the archery club, a contribution to the Oliver production, prizes for the Year 11 and Year 13 Prize Giving ceremony and supporting the running of the school minibus.
Being a Friend of Highworth does more than just help to raise vital funds. Becoming involved can give you the chance to foster and maintain a close relationship with the school; it offers you a rewarding insight into the opportunities and achievements enjoyed by the students and enables you to help shape and enhance your child's journey through the school.
The Friends of Highworth are also excited to launch their new website, where the school community can find out more about the events planned for the year, read about the projects they have contributed to over the last few years and register interest in volunteering.

School Disco Information
Discos are held for students from Highworth and Norton Knatchbull at Highworth. They are hugely popular and a long standing event. The doors open at 6.30pm and students who have pre-purchased tickets at their school will be able to enter with priority. Students are allowed to purchase tickets at the door should remaining tickets be available.
Entry to the Highworth site should be via the Quantock Drive gate and students enter through the large door opposite the mobile classrooms at the front of the school nearest Maidstone Road. This door is located by passing through the main car park and past the bicycle shed and along the front of the school. Students should inform adults of any potential medical needs when they arrive.
Once the students enter the disco, they are not permitted to freely leave the building. There is an enclosed space they may use to cool down and, in some circumstances, may be allowed outside near the mobile classrooms while fully supervised.
The permitted areas of the school are the Hall, Biology toilets, men’s staff toilet, Student Reception area, covered area and linked corridors.
Supervision is provided by Friends volunteers, often supported by Sixth Form students. A ‘tuck shop’ is provided by the Friends.
If students need to leave early, they or their parent/carer should go to the door and speak to the member of the Friends on duty. Students will not be released early without collection in person.
The disco ends smartly at 9.30pm. All students are released at this time to be collected or make their way home. Collection can be made at either Quantock Drive (NKS) or Maidstone Road (Highworth).
It is not possible for the Friends to monitor who leaves with whom, although they make the best effort to be aware of arrangements. Parents/Carers must ensure that they have made explicitly clear arrangements with their child about where they will be collected and when, especially if they are different to normal arrangements.
It Takes Two!
The Friends of Highworth have a busy calendar of fundraising events taking place throughout the academic year, for which we always need volunteers who will commit to generously giving their time and energy in support.
By agreeing to donate just two hours of your time twice a year to sell refreshments, help at a disco, run a stall at the craft fair or fold raffle tickets, you can help make our fund-raising dreams come true! Please find below a list of our forthcoming fundraising events. Please let us know if you are able to pledge your support to any of these events – email friends@highworth.kent.sch.uk
