Prison Chaplain Visit

"On Tuesday 18 November, Reverend Alisoun came to talk to us about her work as a prison chaplain at Maidstone prison. She explained how she supports male prisoners and helps them explore the Christian faith - many adults rediscover religion in prison because they finally have time to think. It was interesting to hear how respectfully the prisoners treated her despite the crimes they may have committed. There were many questions asked about what life inside prison is really like e.g. the food, what you do all day in prison (watch lots of TV!), has she met anyone she couldn't forgive? Reverend Alisoun said she doesn’t think prison is always the best method of punishment, especially for women and if she could change one thing about prisons it would be to give more training and skills so prisoners are better able to succeed and stay away from crime once they leave prison. This was surprising, as it challenged what we expected her views would be before the talk."
