Science Live Trip
On Friday 6 March, ten of our Year 8 scientists swapped the classroom for the bright lights of London. Accompanied by Mrs Power and Mr Norton, the group attended the Key Stage 3 Science Live event to hear from some of the most influential minds in the modern scientific world.
The day was packed with insights, ranging from the intricacies of human biology with Lord Robert Winston to the vast mysteries of the cosmos. The standout moment for many was the final session with Dr. Maggie Aderin-Pocock. She captivated the audience with the mind-blowing fact that we are all, quite literally, "made of stars"—explaining how the elements in our bodies were forged in the hearts of dying suns billions of years ago.
Following the lectures, the group took a short walk to the Faraday Museum at the Royal Institution. Standing in the historic theatre where the famous Christmas Lectures are filmed, the students got a sense of the incredible history of British innovation—from Michael Faraday’s early experiments with electromagnetism to the cutting-edge research of today.
Despite a classic British downpour on the walk back to London Charing Cross, spirits remained high. It was an inspiring day that proved science isn't just about textbooks—it’s about curiosity, history, and our connection to the very universe itself.
