World Book Day

On Thursday 5 March, staff and Sixth Form students dressed up as a range of literary characters to celebrate World Book Day. During the week, students had a World Book Day and reading for pleasure themed assembly where everyone was encouraged to ‘Go All In’ to support the National Year of Reading 2026. Volunteers from Year 9 and Year 12 kindly spoke in the assembly and gave their reading recommendations. At lunchtime, there was a ‘Big Book Quiz’ in the Hall with a range of rounds including ‘Book Emojis’, ‘Who Lives Here?’ and ‘Cryptic clues’. Well done to all who participated and congratulations to Sofia, Daisy, Eliza and Isabel from 9CS who were the winning team! Students also took part in a Mentor Period competition: ‘Don’t judge a book by its reader’ where members of Highworth staff read opening lines from novels. Mentor groups guessed the book and the reader!
