Berlin Trip
The Computer Science Berlin trip departed at the end of April. The students visited the Berlin Bunker story and completed a tour of Berlin with local guides. They went to the Computer Spiele Museum which explores the evolution of home computers and their uses, including computer games, over the last 60 years. They also visited the Deutsches Technikmuseum which has a specific focus on computing. This showed them the development of technology from hundreds of years ago, such as punch card run textile machines to the modern technology that we have, such as the modern PC. Another excursion included the Spy Museum, where students got to view different spy equipment from WW2, through the Cold War to modern technology, including several Enigma machines. On the final day, there was a visit to view the Berlin television tower, with the fastest lift in Europe, this offered amazing 360 degree views over Berlin and all the different places on the visit. Students said that they had “learnt so many new things about computing and tech” and “discovered so many new buildings”. They were pleased to “have made so many memories and learnt so much” and described the design of the Brandenburg Gate as “incredible”. A key feature was “having lots of fun”!
