Dame Evelyn Glennie at Highworth

Highworth's new seventh Learning Community is named after the solo percussionist, Dame Evelyn Glennie, who visited the school on Thursday 22 November. Students were excited to meet her and participated in a question and answer session to learn more about her career.  She has performed to audiences all around the world and is the first person in the world to have made a career as a solo percussionist.  She has been profoundly deaf since the age of twelve but has not let any obstacles hinder her.  Mr Cheesman, Highworth Director of Music Specialism, also invited GCSE and A Level students to learn about her experience of playing as many as 2000 different instruments. Mr Ferris, EG Director of  Learning, and Indi Shepherd, EG Community Captain, asked Evelyn to sign a prized orange EG shirt for the school. They also presented her with her own Community shirt signed by all of the students in the Community. We would like to thank Evelyn Glennie for taking time out of her schedule to visit the school and offer so much inspiration to the students who met her.
