Year 10 Art Trip to Chatham Docks

Chatham Docks was the location for this Year’s autumnal Year 10 Art trip attended by seventy plus GCSE Art students. Thankfully the weather was dry and mild which meant that everyone was able to fully appreciate the splendour and scale of this historic site which has so much to offer. A highlight of the trip was exploring and photographing the warships and in particular the submarine HMS Ocelot (originally in service during the cold war period) as it captured everyone’s imagination and was great fun to clamber through. In contrast the beautiful HMS Gannet a marvellous sailing ship (recently featured in the movie blockbuster Victoria and Abdul) provided students with an opportunity to experience what life might have been like without the many creature comforts that we are normally used to. After visiting the infamous Rope works and the many lifeboats that are on show we settled down to some serious sketching in an area known as the Big Space. At this point students absorbed some of the ambiance that the Dockyards exude to hopefully inspire them to create some imaginative personal responses in the future.
