Music Events

On Wednesday 28 February, we welcomed 320 primary school children from 11 different schools to a singing day run by Kent Music. The day was a raucous celebration of music, culminating in a sharing of performances from the different schools and a performance all together. Our Highworth Music Ambassadors were invaluable, supporting the day throughout and our Highnotes choir performed to the children after lunch. We hope to see the schools back next year for more melodious music-making!

On Friday 1 March, we enjoyed our annual visit from a real Indonesian Gamelan orchestra, provided by Inspireworks. All Year 8 classes took part in a workshop, taking turns to swap between the beautiful metallophones and huge gongs. This opportunity supports our classwork, in which we have been creating group performances of Gamelan-style pieces. Our Year 12 A level musicians also had a workshop to inform their study of how Debussy was influenced by the shimmering, pentatonic, Gamelan soundworld. They enjoyed being challenged by trickier patterns and rhythms and the resulting sound was very impressive. Thanks to Mike from Inspireworks; we hope to see you again next year!
