District Athletics Success

“On Thursday 22 June, we took our athletics teams from Years 7 to 10 to represent Highworth in the District Athletics Competition.

It was an outstanding performance from our Year 7 team who finished first.  Out of 11 events, we won 7 gold medals including relay, shot put, 100m, 200m, 800m, discus and long jump. The team also won bronze in high jump, javelin and hurdles.

Our Year 8 team finished second with just one point separating them and the winning school. We won gold in high jump, 100m and 300m, silver in 800m, shot put and javelin and bronze in discus and long jump.

Our Year 9 team, who showed great resilience and determination, finished first. They won: gold medals in 200m, 800m and long jump; silver medals in relay, discus, 1500m and 300m; and bronze medal in shot put.

Our Year 10 team was magnificent and finished first too! They won: gold medals in Hurdles, 100m, 1500m, discus, triple jump and relay; and silver medals in 300m, 800m, shot put and high jump.

Out of thirteen schools who competed in the district Athletics competition, Highworth finished first overall both in the junior category and senior category with almost 100 points difference between us, in first place, and the school who finished in second place.

This is an amazing achievement, well done to all who took part and represented our school, we are very proud of you all.”
