Filtering and Monitoring

Keeping Children Safe In Education (KCSIE) requires all schools to ensure we are doing all we reasonably can to limit children’s exposure to risks online.

At Highworth, we use a filtering and monitoring software called Lightspeed to block access to harmful sites and monitor content.

The system monitors what staff and students are searching for online and any files on school computers, when at school and at home.  It also routinely monitors school email accounts for harmful material. This helps us to identify concerning behaviours, communication or access online.

If a website is accessed, or a file is created, and Lightspeed deems it as inappropriate, the website will be blocked and an alert will be created. These alerts are monitored by the Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs) during the school day and in term time only. This software is reviewed annually to ensure it is fit for purpose.

Digital Leaders

"As Digital Leaders, we focus on issues to help people in Highworth feel safe and secure online. We support in many areas of online activity and can offer advice on anything from cyberbullying to misinformation.

Being Digital Leaders has increased our communication skills.  In particular, we have learned to collaborate with each other effectively to create materials that will increase the online well-being of others. This is a team role which has allowed us to develop our knowledge and confidence."
